Q. What are some resources for GS4?
- I studied the DK Balaji (IAS) book on ethics several times. I made short notes out of it. It helped me in writing the definitions, quoting examples, flowcharts etc.
2. Essay model answers - gave me enough quotes and anectodes that can be quoted as examples.
3. Topper Answer Copies - helps in understanding the structure of the answers.
Q. How to handle Case studies?
- I followed a template to write case studies - starting it with a short summary, including stakeholders (if i had time) and then going to the questions - a,b,c etc. I wrote a conclusion which summarised my case study and reflected the ethical values.
2. Try to maximise number of points in the case studies answers.
3. Find unique methods of case studies solutions through topper answer copies. For eg. - engaging NGOs, SHGs, etc.
Q. How to manage time for ethics paper?
- 1.5 hour each for Section A and Section B.
2. 7 mins - 10 marker, 10 mins - 15 marker, 15 mins - case studies.
3. Write the question completion time in front of each question within the first minute of receiving question paper. It helps in time management.
4. Practice mocks to improve speed.
5. Use of diagrams/ flow charts to explain things in short but time effective way.
Q. What is the role of test series and topper answers?
- Test series help in understanding time management, model answers help in providing a direction to the answers.

Q. Should we write in points form with explanation or more points in general?
A. There are no specific guidelines but in general - points that cover the answer wholistically with sufficient examples, flowcharts, quotes, ethical values.
Q. How to maximise score in GS4? What is that X factor?
A. Ethics paper is different from other GS papers. Showcasing the ethical values - including values, attributes, examples of personalities and civil servants, quoting prominent people along with use of flowcharts to convey your point will help.
Q. How to tackle specific questions like quote based ques, case studies, etc.
