Essay Strategy – Reflection

I scored only 87 marks in the Essay paper, although I genuinely expected more. [Smile in pain 🙃]

Honestly, I have no idea why the marks turned out this way. But I’d still like to explain what I did as part of my preparation.

I identified 10–12 broad themes that UPSC frequently asks in the Essay paper and prepared concise notes on each of them.

2. Question-Based Approach

I brainstormed and made two-page notes for each essay question asked over the last three years.

3. Incorporating Anecdotes

I collected relevant anecdotes from various sources to enhance the richness and relatability of my essays.

4. Writing Practice

I focused consistently on essay writing practice. After my Prelims setback, I ensured I wrote at least one essay per week until the Mains exam.

Have written more than 50 essays around a period of 15 months
