UPSC Interview Preparation - Strategy and Tips

"UPSC Interview Preparation"

Familiarize Yourself with the Syllabus: Pay attention to the specific points outlined in the syllabus and understand what the board expects from you during the interview.

These expectations can be categorised as follows:

Mental Alertness:

- Show attention to detail and ensure that your responses directly address the questions asked.

Balance of Judgement:

- Demonstrate your ability to view issues and topics from multiple angles.

Variety and Depth of Interest:

- Understand yourself well and be prepared to discuss your background and interests listed in the Detailed Application Form (DAF).

  • Stay informed about current events and developments.

Ability for Social Cohesion and Leadership:

- Display respect for diversity and an understanding of social values.

Critical Powers of Assimilation:

- Formulate informed opinions on various issues and events.

Clear and Logical Exposition:

- Provide structured answers with a logical flow of points.

Intellectual and Moral Integrity:

- Maintain coherence in your responses and exhibit respect for constitutional and civil service values.

The Four Pillars of Interview Preparation:

a. DAF Preparation: Prepare detailed question and answer sets for each aspect mentioned in your DAF.

b. Self-awareness and HR Questions: Be ready to answer questions related to your personal qualities and experiences. Additionally, prepare for situational questions that assess your decision-making abilities and problem-solving skills.

c. Current Affairs Preparation: A comprehensive understanding of at least one newspaper is essential.

d. Communication Skills: Work on enhancing your communication skills by practicing regularly. Engage in mirror practice to improve your expressions, and analyze recorded mock interviews to identify areas for improvement.

Group Preparation: (most helpful in my interview preparation, we spent regular 2 hours regularly on news discussion)

  • Form a group of 4-5 aspirants who are also preparing for the UPSC interview.
  • Analyze newspaper
  • Discuss opinion on various issues
  • Conduct regular peer mock interviews
