CSAT Tips for solving RC

CSAT Tips for solving RC: #prelims (based on my own learnings)

Solve them with calm mind - 27 odd questions are there, with practice 20-22 can be easily made right 👍

  • Answer the question as per the information in the passage. What you already know may not be in consonance with what the passage offers but what matters is that you answer the question as per the passage only
  • At least two option choices in many passages are clearly wrong. Rule them out first
  • Stick to what is said in the passage, don't assume stuff
  • Try to link vocab of ans with vocab of ques (if the tone is different then also ans is invalid)

Inference vs Assumption vs Corollary

An Inference is a piece of information which can be logically deducted from the given set of statements. Inference: one line summary of the passage

Eg: Everyone who reads this article will be more informed about Inference and Assumption. Rahul read this article.

Inference: Rahul is more informed about Inference and Assumption

An Assumption is a hidden or an unstated premise (has some new information)

Everyone who reads this article will be more informed about Inference and Assumption. Rahul received this article in his email. Hence, Rahul is more informed about Inference and Assumption. Assumption: Rahul has read every mail that he has received so far.

Assumption: is not what is given in passage - it is what author must have thought while writing the passage

A Corollary is an inference that follows directly from the proof of another proposition. eg: If passages talks about threats of climate change and then corollary can be say what way fwd can be taken to solve climate change (as way fwd follows directly from the problems/threats of climate change)

Practice these guidelines in PYQs and secure prelims specially CSAT! 😄
