Commerce Optional - Coachings/Mentors taken
These are the coachings that have aided me in my preparation for #optional exam. All coachings/tests series are equally good and bad. The reviews are only personal and can vary from person to person 🖖
- Rankers Classes & CA RS Agarwal Sir: used there notes available from market to prepare short notes (but faced issues in understanding paper 2 concepts), practice for Paper 1 (P1) from the books, Test series taken FLTs, Comprehensive, PYQ solutions, etc
Review: Found the test series decent to start with, Sir has an experience of so many years and provides conceptual knowledge, Earlier sir used to take interactive tests as well which were tests in discussive formats to break the ice before Sectional/FLTs; Sir also helped in solving queries, providing detailed interview related notes and discussion which calmed our nerves
However, after a certain time evaluation becomes generic like it becomes in almost all coachings
2. CA Gautam Sood Sir - Sartthi IAS: Took his lectures for preparation of P2 of Commerce. He took live lectures and explained all the concepts in crisp manner. This helped me overcome the barrier of just reading Rankers notes. It strengthened my core concepts and helped me inter-link and build upon other value added stuff. If it was not for Gautam Sood sir, I would not have been so comfortable in writing mains especially P2. Unfortunately, he doesn't take classes anymore due to his work engagements. You can try reaching out to Sarrthi IAS (by Varun Jain sir) and check if they can bring him back again 🤞 (these are the only classes I've taken as P1 was manageable for me given my graduation in BCom (Acc & Finance) as well as Chartered Accountancy course.
3. Vajiram & Ravi: Took test series for practice in 2022 attempt as I had already taken Rankers test series in 2021 attempt, thought to take feedback from other professor. The faculty here Amit sir is there for personal feedbacks on tests. He even calls you directly if he finds issues in your test answers to explain them over call. However, I found tests to be on tougher side and sometimes off the PYQs generally asked by UPSC. Questions are sometimes taken up directly from ICAI study material which may be relevant but defeats the purpose of the whole test giving idea.
4. CA Rahul Kumar Sir from Diademy IAS: In the 2023 attempt, I got in touch with CA Rahul Kumar sir for improving my marks. Sir provided me value addition material like quotes/diagrams/examples which helped me enrich my notes. He also provided test series which helped me practice and get feedbacl from sir. The questions covered were good. He also formed PYQ solutions which helped practice PYQs especially P1 which you can do it with peers. Sir also sent me complete book sets for P2 which I could use it at all due to time crunch.
My score for optional in P2 has remained in the range of 127-129 over the 3 attempts (was expecting a score jump this year in P2 but it did not turn out).
For P1, I've scored 150 this year from 129 in 2022 (137 in 2021) which was due to theory+ numerical practicewhich helped ensure accuracy & timely completion of numericals on D-Day.
These are my overall engagements as far as optional paper is concerned 🤟 Leave your doubts if any. All the best!
