- choosing wisely is half battle won

3. prelims randomness
- luck factor in prelims

- most toppers took 15-20 mocks

5. gs marks dont vary much
- 100-130 range for most
- optional and essay make difference

MONTH 1: FOUNDATION BUILDING

week 1-2: understanding what sociology actually is
- watched youtube crash courses (sociology in 30 mins types)
- read introduction chapters of ncert sociology
- understood difference between sociology psychology philosophy
- key takeaway: sociology = study of society scientifically

week 3-4: haralambos introduction
- read chapters 1-3 slowly
- made basic notes on:
  - what is sociology
  - emergence of sociology
  - basic concepts (society, social structure, institutions)
- dont rush this. concepts are building blocks.

MONTH 2: THINKERS FOUNDATION

this is where most people give up. the thinker section feels overwhelming. here is how i tackled it:

week 1: auguste comte and herbert spencer
- founding fathers
- understand positivism thoroughly
- social statics and social dynamics

week 2: emile durkheim
- this is the MOST IMPORTANT thinker
- division of labor, suicide study, religion
- understand mechanical vs organic solidarity
- spent extra time here. worth it.

week 3: karl marx
- another most important one
- class conflict, alienation, historical materialism
- dont let politics confuse you - study academically

week 4: max weber
- social action theory
- bureaucracy
- protestant ethic and capitalism
- ideal types concept

by end of month 2 i had solid foundation of classical thinkers.

MONTH 3: MODERN THINKERS + PAPER 2 START

week 1-2: modern sociologists
- talcott parsons (structural functionalism)
- robert merton (manifest and latent functions)
- symbolic interactionism basics

week 3-4: paper 2 indian society introduction
- started with ncert indian society class 12
- understood caste as sociological concept
- began reading about village studies

RESOURCES I USED:

1. haralambos - primary book (must have)
2. ncert sociology class 11 and 12 - basics
3. ignou material - free and underrated
4. youtube: unacademy sociology lectures for concepts
5. topper notes - for understanding answer format

WHAT WORKED FOR ME:

- watching video lectures for difficult thinkers
